Buy clothes that fit you. Whether you are a size 8 or a size 48, if you wear the wrong size clothes, you’ll end up looking bigger than you are. Wearing clothes that are too tight leads to bulges and lumps, just as choosing clothes which are too large adds to your size and makes you look bigger.
Wear more black! Black virtually slims out everyone, and reduces the appearance of belly fat, muffin tops, and love handles. Black can easily be dressed up with a nice colored belt, jewelery or the perfect shoe.
Tips
Go for a dress that is tight right under the bust so the dress is supposed to flow out around your stomach area.
Black does make you look slimmer, but make sure that you don’t overdo it, especially if oyu are really overweight because then people will know that you are trying to look thinner.
Wear dark colors to look slimmer
Black is great as a quick fix as it is very slimming (but only if it fits properly).
Vertical stripes give the illusion of slimness. Horizontal stripes do just the opposite.
When choosing vertical stripes, go for the narrow ones. Broad stripes can make you look larger. However, be aware that very clingy and tight vertically striped clothing will accentuate every blip and bulge. Pinstriped formal shirts from good stores are cute and thinning.
Be confident – it’s the best way to make people notice you!
Just because it’s the latest fad doesn’t mean it’ll look good on you. Learn to choose clothes that flatter your figure, and not just because it’s the hottest style. If you must, try to select a variant of the style that will work best for you. You can also wear the latest accessories with classic well-fitting pieces to combine fashionable and flattering.
Never wear anything shiny or bright over an area you are trying to hide.
Contrary to popular belief, larger people can wear brighter colored clothes as long as their clothes work with their body and fit properly.
Straight legged (or slightly boot cut) trousers create an unbroken line down your leg. This will make you appear taller and therefore skinnier.
Peg legs (pants which grow tighter toward the ankles) make a round bottom look like an ice cream cone. Boot cut pants (straight-legged) balance out the rear.
Skinny jeans, or jeans that have slim legs are good. But, they draw attention to your hips. Not wanted. But if you are tall with a a little more meat on your bones than most models, try on a pair, and see how you like them.
If the option is available, try to go for side or rear fastenings if you are a girl – front flies have the potential to make your stomach bulge out.
Try on jackets or suit-coats to match or compliment your outfit or dress. With the right cut and size, jackets or suit-coats can hide or disguise problem areas and look very sharp and stylish. Look for something that has structure or a “fitted” look rather than something loose like a sweater.
Go for bell-shaped sleeves for big arms.
A universally flattering style of top is the “empire” cut. This cut has a band or some type of visual interest right bellow the bust. This style helps to draw the eye upward toward your face and to skim the stomach and make it appear flat. Just make sure the bottom isn’t too loose. You don’t want it to look like a maternity top!
Be aware that if the band of the top sits on your bust rather than below it, the effect is negative instead of positive. Choose an empire cut that fits your bust size. Try it on first, and with different style pants to see the effect.
Try not to divide your body into sections. For example, a chest, a torso, and legs. Try to make your body appear as one unit. Dresses and matching colours can be lifesavers and make you look taller, therefore slimmer.
Pants MUST be perfect length. Too short makes you look like your clothes are too small and too long gives the appearance that you are shorter than average pant size.
Learn what colors suit you. But white or light colors will make an area look bigger and black or dark colors will make an area look smaller (much as a bright or dark color fabric will fade when it is stretched, as in over a larger area), so use this to your advantage in disguising problem areas. For example, if you are pear-shaped, always wear a lighter-colored top than pants. Conversely, always avoid wearing light colors on your problem areas. For example, wearing a black dress with a white band around the waist would make your waist seem bigger.
Be confident and proud of your body! You look beautiful and look better in any clothing when you feel confident and beautiful, smile, stand tall, have good posture and carry yourself well.
If you’re tall and curvy, avoid wearing slim dainty heels. Thicker heels will help make you look more balanced.
Blow-dry your hair straight. Like a long scarf or necklace, it makes you look slimmer.
Use fake tanner and then use a shimmery moisturizer on top. It will hide cellulite and make your legs look longer and skinnier. Just test the fake tanner out in an inconspicuous spot first, so you don’t end up looking orange!
If you have large hips, cover them up with a long floating top and wear a thick belt at the smallest part of your waist. Wear low-cut tops to draw attention way from your hips. But not TOO low-cut!
Try the layered look. For instance, wear a trendy waistcoat over a t-shirt to hide love handles.
The more groomed and polished you are, the slimmer you look. Keep your hair, make-up, skin, feet and nails in top condition.
Avoid spaghetti straps. A smart fitted shirt with a cap sleeve looks great on curvy women.
If you need a belt make sure it doesn’t have a huge buckle that pops out from under your shirt. It makes you look larger at a quick glance, and otherwise it just looks weird anyway.
